What Are Fungal Nail Infections?

Fungal nail infections, also known as onychomycosis, are caused by fungi thriving in warm, moist environments such as shoes, changing rooms, and swimming pools. These infections often develop gradually, leading to changes in the nails, which may become discolored, thickened, crumbly, or distorted over time.

Fungal nail infections are common, contagious, and can be particularly stubborn to treat without an accurate diagnosis. Many individuals attempt to manage their condition using over-the-counter treatments for months, often without success, because the issue might not be fungal at all or hasn't been effectively addressed.

This is why a thorough podiatric assessment and a tailored nail care routine can significantly improve treatment outcomes, ensuring that you receive the proper care needed to combat fungal nail infections.
